We use the Mag lights on our CR-V and we have scratches. The scratches are not so much from where the Mags sit (mine have a protective material on the bases) but from the cable. I would follow the recommendations here to minimize the damage if you choose to use them. Another problem I had initially was cable slack. Too much and it drags, not enough and it pulls out. But you'll find the happy medium with a little trial and error. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.
