One thing you will learn about towing RVs is, ignorance is bliss.
I guarantee you that 99 percent of those people towing hammer down on the 495 passing you like you were standing still had no idea that their trailer tires were limited to 65MPH. NO CLUE! Even if you pointed it out to them where it's marked on their tire most wouldn't believe it anyway.
Your WD hitch wasn't hurting anything. It does not change the tongue weight, just uses leverage to transfer it off the rear axle of the truck. Sway control is not sway elimination, but it probably saved your life by keeping things down to a dull roar.
Hindsight being 20/20 it was silly to throw away a brand new set of tires before trying other more common solutions to the sway problem... There is no way an LT-E rated truck tire was the cause of your sway.
I never said the tire was the cause of the sway, but the way it handled the sway was obnoxious.
We had two trucks sitting side by side in the parking lot before I had the new tires pulled off. We grabbed the bed of the first pickup and pushed and pulled (in an effort to move the tail end side to side in a sway like manner), and it didn't budge. It had a Goodyear E-Rated Tire. We then moved over to my truck, one guy alone grabbed the bed of mine and pushed side to side, and it moved multiple inches side to side! You could see the sidewalls rolling as if the truck where mounted on inner tubes! It was ridiculous. Furthermore, the first day I drove the truck after the first set of tires where put on, I had no load in the bed, on the hitch, or anywhere else - it was the truck on its own. I made a comment to my wife about how the truck felt like it was floating all over the road and how much more I have to work to keep it where I want it as compared to the day before! I said this before I had ever hooked to the trailer. As soon as I put new tires on it, it handled noticeably better - as in, I never nearly put it in the ditch anymore, whereas before, I did four times in the first hour of my 12 hour round trip.
I guarantee you the tires were junk and largely contributed to the issue. The tire shop gave me 100% of my money back for those anyway so I didn't loose a penny.
Are the tires the issue? No. Undoubtedly not. But did they help the truck manage the issue? Yes. Are those tires junk? (Coming from a guy (me) who would have said just last week, "As long as you drive with half a brain, there is no reason to spend a stupid amount of money on a name brand tire when half the price will buy you this foreign brand!") Yeah..those tires are TRASH and I'll never take the cheap route on something like that ever again. Any body who disagrees, is ignorant.
