Memory Foam pads?

We put a 2 inch topper on our mattress and it is wonderful. Since you do not have much room, a smaller one may do the trick.

I would suggest 5 inches of 5-lb memory foam, as a possibility. That's what I sleep on regularly, except that I have 1 inch of more dense standard foam as a base, though I think I could get away without it. I have ordered through Amazon, and through some place up in Michigan, I think. I'm planning to do this again, when I finally find the right used B.

There are plenty of stories online of foam sellers not shipping the density of foam that you have ordered. You have to calculate out how much it should weigh, based on the stated density (per cubic foot IIRC) and dimensions, and weigh it BEFORE you open it... because, if you open it, and if it's not as advertised, you WILL NOT be able to repackage it to a reasonable size. Note, though, that most foam is slightly underweight, due to manufacturing tolerances, and what is considered acceptable by manufacturers and sellers.

Not very comfy because the foam compresses so much. Memory foam is an "acquired taste" I love it and hubby tolerates it, so if you have never used it I would recommend going to a bedding store that sells those mattresses with foam toppers and try it out!

I find the memory foam toppers and mattress make it difficult to move and/or turn over when you are sleeping. You go to move and it stops you and you wake up. It kept me up all night long.:(

Get a new foam mattress. Just memory topper on the wood you will just sink to the bottom. Too mushy.

Custom cut any normal size for a perfect fit. Bought the Princess as we prefer a bit firmer feel and it is perfect. It is just a medium firmness. The 5" Countess would also serve you well and give the extra headroom. Way better than just memory foam.

You can get an 8 or 10 inch memory foam mattress

My daughter moves hers to the floor and sleeps on it often.

Yes, our next step it go to the store and try it out .. but want to get info and opinions first, and go with information instead of listening only to the sales person.

The headroom issue is sitting up, getting off and on, not so much the laying down and sleeping part. We are tight between mattress and ceiling now, and would like a few more inches if possible.

We have no room to put it on top of the bed - we're in a TC, so headroom is short. That's why we want to use the 4" foam directly.

BUT, we really want to research it first - we'll sacrifice headroom for comfort, but are limited in the headroom, so we need to do our homework. We don't care too much about $$$ as long as it's reasonable. Comfort has more priority than $$$ up to a point.
