That would be foolhardy. Don't treat this stuff lightly, 120V can "freeze" you to ground and really hurt you, even death is possible.
Yes aluminum conducts electricity. So does steel. Your 0 measurements are probably because your probe is not in contact with bare metal but is on paint or rust.
