MICE INFESTATION !

We put our 98 Endeavor away last December , drove the car out west for a 2 month ski vacation around the 1st of February and arrived home around April 1 . I had planned to get the MH ready soon after , however , I became extremely ill for a month and a half. Well , we just went to check it out yesterday to see what we needed to do .

When I opened the door I could not believe my eyes or the terrible odor.
There were mice droppings everywhere . I'm not talking about just some here and there . I mean there were massive quantities everywhere ! Under every AC roof vent there was piles of styrofoam pellets and fiberglass.

I couldn't do much at that time so we ran to the store and placed sticky traps around .

We came back today with cleaning supplies and a shop vac .
I'll try to shorten this , but we just spent 7 hours vacuuming the AC ducts and cleaning the upper cabinets that always before I had thought were impenetrable to mice. They had burrowed from the AC ducts , following a roof strut and had chewed through a hard plastic 90 degree strut cover located in the cabinet. The cabinets had about 2 inches of
a combination of chewed up food and mice poop . When I opened one of the cabinet doors one jumped out and I saw another jumping around !
I closed the doors . I later came back and opened all the cabinet doors and began removing chewed up boxes , bags , etc . Mice were just lying up in the food . I vacuumed all the stuff on the bottoms of the cabinets . One mouse went up the vacuum hose !

Anyway , it was and is still a major nightmare . I can hear mice running in the roof, and we were seeing them run around on the floor occasionally while cleaning .

The only time I remember seeing so many mice was years ago as a kid in an old barn with corn stored .

We still have hours and hours of cleaning to do , however I still have mice in there and doubt I can catch every one of these critters.

Also my AC thermostat is not working , so no AC . I'm sure they chewed up some wiring.

I am in serious need of advice and help on how to get rid of these pests !!!!

HELP !!!

Thanks

PS We had parked the MH last fall at a state park storage area in a field , so I imagine that's where the mice came from.
  • X2 on contacting your insurance company. My neighbor had the same thing happen to his pop up this past winter. His insurance company totaled the camper. He now has a new pop up.
  • This is a job for professionals. Hantavirus and other diseases will probably be present. If you are still recuperating, stay away. There has been reports of plague in the US, spread by rat fleas. Never, ever leave food like that, again.
  • STAY OUT OF THAT RV UNTIL YOU HAVE GOOGLED "HANTAVIRUS"!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS A KILLER.
  • I'd go down to depot and buy 4 or 5 bug bombs turn off the power open up all the cabinets and gas the suckers...... Then set mouse traps or the green mouse/rat bait bars.....

    My thought...

  • I'd make a claim. If the rig is that infested, it will require breathing masks (hantavirus is no joke.)
  • Contact your insurance company. This may be covered by your insurance policy. I have no personal experience with that bad of an infestation, but we have had a few here and there. From what I understand, it is very unhealthy for you to breathe in the air from an infested area. Please use some type of breathing protection if you decide to continue working on this yourself. I think personally, I'd file a claim and get help from some professionals to get rid of them. They breed very very fast.
