I think that is a sure fire method. We fifth wheel with 3 cats. When not camping I leave the litter box in the camper - after servicing of course. Never had a mouse problem.
My belief is that the meeses can smell a cat and will not go there.
I used to think this was true until this winter. Cats didn't leave the garage much when cold & I was trapping mice that were under my ground level deck. Once it warmed up cats outside all day, hanging out on the deck, litter box on deck but I still trap a mouse periodically on the deck, even find mouse******in the cats empty food dish, so the smell thing is another myth.
