Having worked in the insurance industry I can tell you that elderly drivers have many accident - almost as many as the young kids. The young ones have a problem with speed and the older ones can's see well, can't keep track of left/right blinkers and turn the opposite direction, hit the gas instead of the brake, can't keep up with the busy, fast traffic on the expressways and make lane changes that are inappropriate or too slow to blend in and merge. Lots of problems at both ends of the age scale. I would not object to vision and road tests starting at age 70.
