My Mum just got her letter from the BC Government to have a medical exam before her 80th birthday. I do not anticipate her having any issues with passing the test. I am not sure if it is an annual medical or every couple years.
My mil who has diabetes and other health concerns had to have annual medical exams for many years. Two years ago at age 75 her doctor failed her on the medical exam and she lost her right to drive. I agreed with the doctor's assessment and it was nice that family did not have to get involved in having it removed.
And no it is not only older folks who should have their ability to drive reassessed on a regular basis. A friend who is a physiotherapist has reported patients to Motor Vehicles when it was obvious that it was not safe for them to drive due to mobility issues.
But we live in an area with a large retired population. Every couple years someone mistakes their gears or gas and brake pedal and crashes into a building. Unfortunately each driver has been a senior.
