Great discussion, but even though I agree with the concept of requiring eyes test and written tests at a specified age (70 sounds good to me). I would like to see written and driving tests required at least every ten years for everyone. The laws change and if we are not required to take the test we don't read the fine manual to get the updates. Also, over time our driving skills or lack there of deteriorate over time and we get some real bad habits ingrained into our driving.
I'm 70 and just renewed my license last July with an eye test a written test. I have taken three road tests in my driving life, 1959 to get my first license and 1980/1988 for my motor cycle endorsements in two different states. There's something wrong with this picture. Plus, I drive a 32k LB DP and have never had to take any test to see if I know how to drive it, operate it or even understand how it works. Again, there's something wrong with this picture.
