As a police officer, and more specifically traffic cop, I take my fair share of traffic collisions ranging from interstate to local roads. From what I see elderly drivers are responsible for just as many, if not more collisions than young teenage drivers. A perfect example is in our metro area we have several grocery stores and three high schools. I take far more collision reports at the groceries with elderly than I do at the high schools with teens. The other bad spot is on I-75. Elderly drivers don't seem to have the reflexes needed to respond to the ever changing dangers on the interstate. They hate to speed up to merge so its either merge into the side of oncoming vehicles, or slam the brakes on at the end of ramps causing rear end collisions at the end of the ramps. I'm not saying that all elderly should have their license taken away, but there should be some type of physical testing required.
