- VeebyesExplorer IIGermany has had that law for many years. They are serious about their driving. A car is not a place to have a yap yap on the phone or eat your lunch. Get caught in the left lane sitting there, get booked. Guess it needs to be clear when there is an unlimited speed.
The phone yappers, no matter the lane, are a hazard. - colliehaulerExplorer III

North of Minneapolis-Saint Paul on I-35 pulling my camper I stayed in the left lane for the same reason. Since then they have replaced the pavement.romore wrote:
Same thing here, stay out of the left lane unless overtaking. I remember driving an empty fuel truck from Pocatello to Boise in the left lane, I couldn't take the pounding in the right heavily traveled one.
LOL!
I was traveling west on I90 in Washington near Ritzville, doing 70 in a 65 zone in the left lane for the same reason, no other car in sight. Then spotted two WSP sitting under an overpass, didn’t bother to slow down as only 5 mph over posted limit.
Sure enough one pulled out and lit me up! :h When he came to the window I got the normal “You do know why I stopped you!” It wasn’t the 5 over, traveling in the left lane! :S Well got off with a chuckle and a verbal warning. :B - rhagfoExplorer III

Just relax and take a chill pill. Will driving a little slower kill you? I have a hard time understanding the pervasive need that people have to be "winners". This is not Nascar!
A five, or even ten, mile per hour difference makes such a little difference over an hour as to be comical. Do the math.
So it takes you five or ten minutes longer to get to your destination. You probably lose anytime you might think you have gained waiting at the stop light on the off ramp :)
That is true if one is going to drive just a hour maybe two, but for longer drives six/seven hours or more that five/ten mph can add up to a hour or more to ones driving time. like HackerAce said Do the math. - westernrvparkowExplorer

If they take a tip from California, that $100 fine can balloon to around $500 with fees. In the Republic of California, the fine is the smallest part of the cost of a ticket.

They watered it down so that it now is only going to be a 100 dollar fine. - colliehaulerExplorer IIIKansas has had the law on the books for a few years and we still have people hanging out in the left lanes. Can relate to governed semi's driving miles on end side by side because one truck is a .25 mph faster.
IF I find myself getting annoyed at drivers I look for the first rest area pull off and take the Collies for a walk. Lot less stressful. - Cobra21Explorer

This works very well for me, and I will not be changing anytime soon!!
Brian - ulvikExplorerGood! Should be enforced in every state!!!!!
- brianosaurExplorer IIDon't *usually* have to worry about that here around the Long Island & NYC Metro area. Occasionally, you get someone going SLOW, in the left lane, at 63mph on most of our 55 mph highways.
But then the friendly drivers around here will kindly let you know how slow you are going with blinding highbeams and horn blasting.
On a side note, anyone else just love the CBE or BQE? Usually so packed, and slower speeds, but the dipping and lane weaving is just wonderful!
Half a car length in front of me? Well just come on over! Naah, no signal needed. You're fine!
It's fantastic to tow that rv though the city! It's all good. - spoon059Explorer II

After being on the books for a year, a local news station did a story about it and found that not a single citation had been written anywhere in the state.
Yea, not too many cops wanna make traffic stops in the rain to write a citation for it... I don't blame them.
