Mosquito Control

I picked a couple of those small fans from WALMART just a few weeks ago and they were the USB types and came with a 120VAC to USB adapter. Just so happens my truck has those USB connectors on the dash...

Already had one of those fans blowing on me while waiting for moma bear to get done shopping at Walmart... Pretty neat I thought...

When camping and sitting around the patio area under the awning we always have a 20-inch box fan running...

Moving air works great except when camping near the beach in South Carolina. I never saw so many little bitty mosquitoes... Even the wind coming in from the Ocean didn't keep them under control.

They were so small I don't think the screens in the window even slowed them down...

This was some private property camping on Johns Island at Charleston...

We had a wet spring last year and the mosquitoes were bad. I downloaded an app called AntiMosquito on my smartphone that emits a high pitched tone that mosquitoes don't like. I turn it up as high as it will go. It works really well for me. I keep my phone in my pocket and it protected my entire body. It only worked in my immediate area. Someone standing a few feet from me would not be protected.

The only downside to it is that kids can usually hear it and it can be annoying to them. Not sure about pets since we don't have any.

This year, we had a really, really wet spring so far, but the mosquitoes haven't been too bad yet. They are still around though. My wife's sister bought us 4 Tiki Torches and Off Citronella oil with cedar. It actually works really well. Within a minute or two of lighting them, the area is skeeter free. I setup a triangle around the perimeter of our camp chairs and put the fourth one a little ways away from our chairs - depending on which way the wind is blowing - so the smoke blows towards us. None of us have been bitten yet while at the camp site. I picked up a couple while walking around the campground. If I can remember to turn on my app, then I'd be good while away from the camp site as well.

I have one fan and two batteries in my MH at all times for in case of an emergency. I RV with several dogs and in a power outage this fan keeps my dogs cool and safe. Charge the batteries at home before you leave.

The two charged batteries gives you a days worth of operation.

Not like those O2Cool fans that I wasted a ton of my money on that run about 20 minutes totally killing the 6- C batteries it takes to run them. :R

Will keep my eye out for the Ryobi (love my finishing sander from the company!) when my 10" O2Cool dies (which I hope is never;)). Haven't had a problem with excessive battery usage; in fact it's made it through...7 camping seasons (on average 36 nights) on one set of batteries per season.I will say that I only run the fan at night instead of 24/7.

If you really want a honkin blow'n fan pick up one these trucker 12 volt fans!

I plug them in where my antenna booster is and clip the fan to the top of the open cabinet door!

Go to Flying J and go into what is the 'special' area for Truckers. It's off to the side. Sometimes looks like you are going into their service area but that is where the aisels of goodies are.

You will find a plethora of stuff that they sell to truckers that works great for us RV'ers that you will not find in normal stores. And at low prices.

One answer that works here in Fl. is D.E.E.T. for the gnats skin so soft helps..

The teeny tiny mosquitos were probably gnats and they can bite too. They do come right thru the screens. When we arrive and will be parking for more than a day or two, we spray our site with Home Defense. We also put an outdoor carpet down under the awning. Compared to the neighbor who doesn't and is just sitting on the stones, we have far fewer mosquitos. If they did get really bad, we would either stay inside our put a fan blowing under the awning. So far, we have not had to do that. If I work outside and will be out for several hours, then it's the deet.

I sure wish the skeeters round here knew they couldn't fly in a breeze because here, they sure do!

By breeze, I mean I need to shield my lighter to light a cigarette. I went camping yesterday and came home today because, in part, the mosquitoes were so bad. I tried fishing last evening, with a breeze strong enough to form small waves on the shore and the skeeters were biting me like crazy.

According to the EPA there are no health concerns with DEET. People have been using it for many, many years, including us.

Get a Thermacell.
We winter in the Florida Keys and camp in the Everglades National Park as well and wouldn't be without one.
We have been using one for many years now and believe me they work.

You can sit outside at your picnic table all night long and a mosquitoe or no-seeum won't come near you.

They are good for about a fifteen foot diameter circle

We stopped using deet and Avon skin so soft as soon as we realized they worked so good.

We found that at home here in the NC mountains, it works great to keep all the pesky little flying things away too.
