- D_E_BishopExplorerJust wondering, will motion detector activated lights wake you so you can run the thief off? I'd sleep right through them. Another thinking, would the scare lights help in arresting the thief or would a trail cam picture help?
Maybe if you had both, the thief could see the camera and steal that.
As much as I hate it but the cameras are becoming a necessity, the DGS and I will be installing our 4 camera security system on Black Friday. And yes, there have been several thieves that wandered into our neighborhood caught and arrested due to the homeowners having security cameras. - cartmancartmanExplorerI had someone try to break into my toy hauler 4 am in Glamis last season while I was in it, that was not a good experience, I am assuming he thought it was vacant. I do a lot of boon docking and need some protection a heads up when I am in the middle of nowhere. Will a motion light help? Absolutely! All the motion lights will have individual switches and will not be used in campgrounds. The newer technology lights you can adjust the sensitivity and range. Per their website:Microchip distinguishes between people and small animals or blowing debris BTW, You are kidding yourselves if you think theft doesnt happen, obviously it depends on where you camp but it does happen.
I appreciate all the responses but I am really not looking for opinions on if you think I need motion sensor lights or how it would effect the peacefulness and aura of your oasis.
If you have experience with motion lights please respond. I had one person PM me with a proper response as they want to jump in this lion den. - downtheroadExplorerWorried about security?
Chances are you will have to worry about a lot of angry neighbors in most all of the places you camp....if you go ahead with your 4 side motion light plan.
I'm glad that this is a really big country with lots and lots of campgrounds....chances are we won't be camping next to someone with motion lights on all four sides of their rig...... - jdb7566ExplorerSecurity from what, your fellow campers? 35 years of RVing and I've never had anything stolen from my campsite. Fortunate? Maybe, just stating a fact.
- TerryallanExplorer III agree. Why would you need them. Unless you are boon docking away form EVERYBODY. And if that is the case, You wouldn't be afraid of the dark any way.
As mentioned. Using them in a Campground. will only upset every one else. I know that IF your scare lights came on every time I stepped out of my Camper. We would have to have a talk. I don't need you to light up my bedroom.
BTW. Tacky lights should be turned off at bed time as well. - NMDriverExplorerUse infrared game cameras they do not bother the neighbors and are much better at capturing any critter that approaches your property.
- buckyExplorer IIRaccoons will start playing with the lights. It also helps them find your stuff so that they can scatter it all over the place.
May I ask why you are doing this? - dodge_guyExplorer IISorry but unnecessary. why would you want them on all 4 sides? If they are like all motion lights they will come on even if a leave falls.
Bad idea! - craig7hNomad IIAt first I was not going to say anything but then I thought more about it. First off I would look at the range of the motion switch. As sites are close together your light would most likely be shining in my living room window. If your sensor turns on between one and three feet no more. Lots of folks walk their dog on the parks streets, is your light going to come on every time.
I am sorry I just think its a bad idea and not thinking about your fellow rvers.
