Motor Home burned

We were in the Hell's Canyon dam area last week. This is what we saw. So sad! The people apparently were able to bail out in time to get their toad off. I don't know what caused the fire. In discussing this with an RV repairman, he said he's seeing RVs that have burned due to using ethanol gas. He also said that if you have a fridge that has been recalled, are running it without having the recall taken care of and it burns your rig, the companies are fighting payments. Just a word of warning ...don't know if what he said is true or not.

Never heard of ethanol causing any more fires than any other fuel we use.
Seams everything gets blamed on ethanol. (Which I am not a fan if anyway).
Just a lot of guessing and here say by many of us and repairman.
We agree with you --- we'd never heard of it causing fires either.....

I worry about something like this. We have an Older MH. An '87 class A.
Its a rear bed model and the emergency exit is the rear window.
I really wonder if we could get out if needed.

Hope We never have to find out.
My sympathies go out to them.

Best thing is to practice getting out. Making sure you know exactly how to open the window and make sure it's not "stuck" and can open easily.

Just a guessing on the RV repair guy.
That's all any of us can do looking at a picture.
I wasn't saying the repairman even saw the pictures......he was just saying what his experience and stories he's been told. We don't know and probably will never know why this one burned.....sad. Oh......the repairman....we were talking to him because our NEW faucet in our RV developed a leak. Turns out Price-Phister (?) is made with copper touching on metal......6 camping trips in 1 1/2 yrs and the copper was eaten thru!!!!! Now we have a MOEN we purchased from an Ace Hardware.......repairman was for 1 little adapter!!!!
  • Very sad to see this. Glad everyone got out in time. I know from experience that fiberglass burns very fast and very hot, 6 years ago my 1962 corvette developed a fuel leak onto the exhaust. Only took me a couple of minutes to get the car off the road and stopped, but by that time the fire had already burned through the firewall and coming into the passenger compartment. My sympathies go out to the owner, I can only imagine the hell they went through just getting out of the MH.
  • Photos like that will sure turn one's stomach. Glad they got out.

There was an RV that went up in flames in our town last summer, and it was their FIRST TRIP WITH IT. People were also in a scramble to get it unhooked from their vehicle.

  • You would need more than a repair man.. You would need a bucket loader to bury the rv in a land fill.
  • There are more pictures if you click on that one. Very sad. Something we all hope will never happen to us.
