Museum Exhibit Shows Virtues of Living Small

When I saw this article in today's Sunday paper, I had to chuckle. Many of us live in similar sized spaces either occasionally or full time and may even have pets to boot! Give me a break! Our 3055RL Bighorn has 323 sq feet of living space and we love it - in fact it is luxurious to us!

  • Hitchup - I agree! Just spent 9 days on the road in our "small" 35' fiver and although we are home to our 2100 sticks and bricks plus home, I'm sleeping out in my rolling bungalow to extend my vacation feeling!
  • NYC is trying to maximize the space for the millions of people. I'd rather walk up 4 steps to a 400sf 5er than live in a 400sf high rise looking at the building across the street or worse within feet of my bedroom window.

New Suites have residential refrigerators and some have dishwashers and garbage disposals standard. I like being the DW in our family.

funny, Sunday I had "house hunters" on TV (HGTV) and there was a couple looking for a NYC condo.. one of the ones they really liked was a 350 sq ft studio with a murphy bed.. for what it cost, I could have bought my dream full time RV and tow vehicle... it was right at a half million dollars.. It had way less storage than my current 24 ft TT and didn't have a seperate bedroom.

You are so right! To top that, if you had that dream RV and tow vehicle, for that price, it would probably be just under 400 sq feet and considered a luxury.

They think they have discovered something "new". Living small has been a way of life for us fulltimers for a long time, and we have the advantage of changing
neighborhoods when we feel like it.

Amen to that! Changing the scenery when we want is why we stick with our fifth wheel rather than buy a cabin on land in the mountains near us.

  • Renee, you are so right! Doing dishes, or any kind of housework, is so much more enjoyable in an RV than in a 'stick & brick'. For that matter, I also enjoy working on the outside of the RV, too. I love my little 'womb with a view'.
  • Yeah! Isn't that crazy?! Heck, my fifth wheel doesn't have a dishwasher but I'm happy with that. When we'er out RV'ing, I love doing the dishes. They should take a lesson from RV's in storage ideas, then both of these women could store all the clothes and shoes they want.
