Managed to dig through the ancient brain cells and I believe I found a hint for you. In the days when that unit was young, gas powered vehicles would suffer from something called "vapor lock" that was the result of hot spots in the fuel lines. Ask your chat buddy about it.

Vapor lock is about 99 on the list of the top 100 causes for their issues.
If you picked up on the context of the OPs posts, they don’t drive this thing across the desert or up a mountain and experience vapor lock.
This rig quit running while driving from one “urban campground” to another.
