Our family has always had French names because of our heritage.
The 13ton ketch that was home for many years was Qui Vive (the French version of "Who goes there").
The racing sloop was Sambeaux (Sambo). She was small and black and my father was a loved of story of the little boy running the tigers to butter. This was long before the perpetually offended had their way.
The ice boats were Bête Noire and Carte Blanche
Our own sloop was Bonne Ideé (say Bonny Day - Means Good Idea)
Our coach is Chaumière (say Show Me Air but it is a cottage)
My wife still says that the GMC really stands for Grama's Mobile Cottage.
