Need suggestions for new living in wake of Harvey

My wife and I 62, lost everything in Katrina and now Harvey took the rest. We can't go through this anymore. Life is too short and it keeps kicking our butts. We have access to a F150 and would like to cash out (may need to live in it for awhile) and get a truck camper or a 18ft appox travel trailer. What truck camper is best for f150? is there any negatives about a truck camper we should know? were in good shape, what about dogs? price is a major consideration and negatives about traveling, parks etc. Any help would be appreciated

  • What motor does that half ton have, hope its the V-8 cause that is what is needed, a 1/2 ton with a good motor can handle up to a 26 foot travel trailer, look for one with a slide than it wont seem so cramped.

I say just jump into the RV lifestyle you might just like it..

Not enough truck for a TC and you could go up to a 28' TT if it's built light enough.
  • So sorry for your loss. I think you'll be much happier with the trailer with the extra room, especially since it will be your primary home. Agree with the other poster that truck camper too heavy and with pets there's even less room. Good luck, it's time you had some.
  • If you do this and you are old enough to buy the senior pass at any national park or forestry service or corp of engineer ranger station. You can then get the senior discount and camp usually for $10 or less per night. You should also join Passport America and try to use some of their parks at 50% off normal rates - 1,800 campgrounds in the US. But --- your best/cheapest rate will be if you find a place to stay monthly, seasonally or some have annual rates. Also check out freecampsites.net for some cheap or boondock locations.
  • Living in an 18 foot trailer full time? Not the smartest choice. But I guess if thats all you got, then Lance makes some decent travel trailers. Forget truck campers. You simply do not have enough truck for that option.
