Tired of showing up to RV parks and being stuck there unless we want to load everything back up in the RV, unhook and basically break camp to go do something. I have an 03 Grand Cherokee 4x4 that I hear tows well 4 down. So we are looking into a tow system for our Jeep but I have no idea what's involved. First on the Jeep side. Do you just put the Trans in neutral and your good to go? Or is there other stuff involved? Also do I need to install some sort of hooks to the front to make it work so I can hook up to the rv? Electrical in front for lights, brakes?On the Motorhome side what kind of system do I need? I heard someone say these can be a fortune. Like $2k plus. What's something decent that won't break the bank?Also is this gonna kill my fuel mileage with my 07 Georgetown 350DS Class A? Not that it gets very good fuel mileage anyways...Thanks for the help.

Well, typically you'll need:Base plate for the jeepTow barLight kit for the jeepSupplemental braking system for the jeep (should include breakaway system)6 or 7-pin umbilical cable kit (usually includes both connectors and cable)First, need to know what the tow limit is for your mh, many gas motor homes are limited to 3500 lbs...others are 5000 lbs. So how much does your jeep weight? Don't know? Go to some scales and find out. You also need to know for sure that your jeep can be towed 4-down....some can, some can't.Read you motor home and jeep's owner manuals under recreational towing. Lots of good info there.Yes, $$ can (and will for new items) be $2k or more. Another $1k for installation. If you can handle simple tools, you can do the install yourself.The three most popular tow systems manufactures are: Roadmaster, Blue-Ox, and Demco. You can go to any of their websites for all the price, availability, and installation instructions.There are individual state laws that pertain to towing and equipment required. Make sure that your Grand Cherokee 4x4 can be towed 4 down. It needs to have a transfer case with neutral position installed...Then it's just a baseplate, tow bar, lighting system, and braking system.

IMO, the Ready Brute integrated towbar/braking system by NSA is the best bang for the buck there is.
I strongly recommend you go to the dealer or Ebay and get an Owners Manual. There is a WEALTH of information in there!

Mine has a Quadra-trac II transfer case. It does have a "N" position.

Are any of the additional brake systems needed like I linked to above?

I also found a Brake Buddy for $400. Is any one better than the other? Thanks

NO! This 03 Grand Cherokee is a 4x4 and should have a neutral position on the T-Case. In which case it can be towed 4 down without any 3rd party modifications. I should know since I'm a Jeep engineer. We towed an 04 Grand Cherokee 4x4 for several years. The 03 is the exact same vehicle.
