New 4X4 vehicles for flat towing

Question

Since getting the Axis we have been researching dinghies, specifically 4X4 under 4000#.
Seems the only choice is a Wrangler which we don't want. To bad the manufacturers aren't making anything else. We believe they are missing the boat.
When we get home this fall it will be either our 2005 Grande Cherokee or the 2008 Ram 4X4 since we also don't want manual transmission.

GM's new midsize pickups have electronic 4x4. There must be a few different versions. The one with settings for 4L and N on the Transfer Case Knob can be flat towed.   See Page 330. It's a routine, you probably need to have the manual or checklist, and it involves disconnecting the battery as well. Still, towable truck, probably a little over 4000 but hopefully not by much.

This pamphlet on page 11 Ford says they have 9 awd or 4wd you can pull 4 down for 2016.

I don't mean to start another battle of opinions but....  what are you looking for in a light 4x4 that the Wrangler does not provide?

Does it have to be 4x4?  How about AWD?  Many of those are available and towable.Ron

Many of those are available and towable.RonYes, Subaru, for one USED to be towable four down, but ONLY the manual transmission models.I say USED to be because I understand the Owners Manual for the 2016 models says they are NOT towable four down!I, too, would like to know why the Wrangler is not to be considered.
