new honda eu2000 rough idle

Hello i recently purchased a brand new honda eu2000 inverter generator from a honda dealer. Heres the thing under load its runs fine, on eco mode with choke part way on it runs fine. But in eco mode with no load it idles rough. I took it to the dealer and the took the carb off cleaned it and still same problem. They told me thats just how they run. And they said they tested it beside another new one and they ran the same. Is it just me or should it run smooth from new?

  • I'll second the sea foam recommendation. Let her run for a while if you can, if that doesn't work I'd take her in (since its new). Mine are 5 years old now and the only time they ran rough was when I got lazy and didn't put stabil in the gas beforehand.
  • If it was not brand new, I would tell you with 99% certainty that it needs a carb cleaning, because that is exactly how they run when they have something plugging a jet or orifice in the carb. BTDT. No, they idle fine when things are right. I'd take it back or have them service it, whichever.
  • Mine has run poorly since it was new. It too idled rough and jiggled around. I poured about half a can of Seafoam in it and ran it for 6 hours powering my TT.
During that time it got smoother and smoother and still runs better than ever (although it's still a pig to start after it's been sitting).
Seafoam is on sale right now at Oriellys for $7.99. I don't usually go in for snake-oils but that stuff has worked for me on several occasions.
  • I have had 2 different Honda eu2000's and neither idled rough with no load in ECO mode. If it idles better with choke partially on it sounds like it is running a little lean. If you have the manual handy look for an idle mixture adjustment.
  • Small single cylinder motors inherantly run rough at idle. Its just nature of the beast. Ever notice how your lawn morwer idles? Same thing.
