  • Good luck on your new life. Don't let the naysayers above scare you. What you do in your after work life should be what makes you happy. While many are content to have nothing specific in life they must do, others like the idea of continuing to have some form of daily routine. And the great thing about being retired and doing a host position, if it does not work out you can hit the road for the next adventure.
  • GF once mentioned 'host job'

Just couldn't get my head around 'working' and being retired :H

    Just wasn't something I retired for.......another job.

Best of luck and hope it works for you.
And I do agree with the 'go now' as there are no guarantees
  • My parents talked about buying an RV and hitting the road for the last 20 years of dad's life. He never made it to retirement before throat cancer took him. Same with my former Father in Law. He got emphysema when he was in his forties and finally died of throat cancer. By the time he retired he was tied to an oxygen tank and was too broke to travel. I've got 3 years until I can retire and I'm already counting the days.

Host jobs may get pretty hectic at times. Usually no pay just free room and board and you provide the trailer.

Some have you cleaning the bath houses, trash cleanup around the sites after folks leave, turning in reports on who is there etc... If they have cabins guess who cleans those...

Usually the telephone emergency contact spot...

We was interested but never did it. Always checking where we go on how it works. Some places work you pretty hard...

One place up on the Blue Ridge was pretty neat as it was next to a visitor center/restaurant and you got one free meal a day and a RANGER Handheld radio unit for emergencies...

Another place sold firewood and it was the host job to keep the firewood rack always full up... They did have a four wheel drive type utility golf cart thing for you to use...

There also seems to be a good ole buddy system with the host setups and the good places are always taken around the country. All of them rotate from one place to the next among themselves...

Overall it Sounds like a good idea though
