Mike:
I have been using the Sway Pro for almost a year now, and after using an Equalizer brand hitch for many years prior, I do have some observations that may help you.
First - some history. Back in 2001, upon purchasing my first 27' TT, my dealer set me up with a standard Reese hitch. Not knowing much, I towed with that hitch only about an hour before I realized passing cars & Semis would move us around way too much! I heard about the Equalizer brand hitch on this forum, and after some research, I ordered one online from the company directly. It took some time to set up, but it worked flawlessly in keeping us in control on interstate highways out to Pennsylvania. At that time the Equalizer was fairly new. My dealer never saw one before I turned in my Reese hitch to him & let him look over my new setup. So for a couple of years, until we traded in our TT for a 5th wheel, I used the EQ hitch and was pleased.
After selling our 5th wheel in 2007, we missed camping so much my wife & I decided to purchase a new TT in 2010, and again purchased an
Equalizer hitch to tow it with. But this time, no matter how much I tried, it seemed impossible to make the adjustments needed to fully stabilize the ride the way I wanted. But I towed with that hitch until the summer of 2014 when we traded up to our current FR Windjammer TT. With the new TT being even longer & heavier (32' & 5,400 dry weight) I had some concerns. Then the dealer technicians could not get the old hitch set up on the new TT without it being nose high. I towed it home anyway, and after weeks of trying to adjust things, I gave up and started searching for some other options.
Last spring I heard about the Blue Ox Sway Pro on this forum, and again hoping for some improvement, ordered one online. I can highly recommend this hitch! The beauty of it is it's simplicity - no adjusting of the head angle (a real pain in the butt) and once you figure out how many links it take to tow level, that is it! We towed from Michigan to Maine last summer, and I was impressed. No sway at all from passing Semis or cars. We did have some moron cut in front of us in Canada, and even though it could have been an accident, when we hit the brakes going 55+mph the hitch kept everything in line & under control. Of course the other difference is the hitch is so quiet - we were always announcing our arrival with the EQ with creaks & groans! Not any more.
So, having towed with both hitches, I know you would be happy with either. But the advantages of the Sway Pro, for about the same cost as the EQ, are the ease of setup & quietness. With both hitches, towing when side winds push, you will feel it, but it never leads to loss of control or sway.
