new rv

My wife and I bought a new rv travel trailer at the beginning of Oct. Went camping and found the frige did not work. Took it back to dealer and they have had it ever since. Last wednesday they were suppose to have gotten a new frige in. This morning I call and they say they are having an issue with the screws. I figure they have damaged something in the support. They said they would call us right back. We usually call them once a week to find out what's going on. They never call us. My wife says just to give them the rv back and get our down payment. Not sure if we can do that. Looks like we now have a damaged trailer. Anyone else have this happen to them? If so what were your options?

Which Camping World store is this?

:R Man, you sure got that one right.
  • Wife and I picked up RV last Saturday. Hooked up electrical and fired up frige. Didn't work. Checked serial number, and guess what? It was same as the old one they supposedly replaced with a new one. Tomorrow I plan on ripping a new one open on these guys. Have written proof that they never put a new one in when they said they would.

Bad deal. My suggestion still is: hire a mobile tech that will do warranty work or pick another franchise.
Yes, contacting the mfr and relating what happened may get you better service.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Make yourself annoying in a polite way. They won't call you -- you are your own service writer and expediter. If they have to order parts, you need to make sure they actually ordered them (I learned that the hard way).

Sadly, this is how RV service is.

Not every dealer is like that. When we were doing the initial post PDI learning we incorrectly re-attached the outside panel covering the hot water heater. It flew off on our first trip out. I called up our dealer and asked if I could buy the part through them as there was only one place listing it online and the shipping was as much as the part. They responded that it would be covered under warranty and that they would order the part without us bringing the trailer in. Less than a week later I dropped by on my way home and took the part and was on my way. I was worried about rain getting into the bay and under the siding but because they were so fast there was only one day between losing the cover and getting the replacement and we were able to tape a piece of large tupperware over the hole for that one night.

Time to ratchet it up a notch. If a service station claims to have replaced a part and you (or your designee such as warranty claim) is billed, it is a crime called FRAUD.

Typically people who are trying to jerk you around and then are dishonest have little reservations about sliding to the next lower level.

Sounds like a confrontation and equalization is in order. Inform and give them a chance- on the spot- to resolve it to your satisfaction, or seek out authority (AG, local police, or even call your local news).

This kind of BS must be squashed quickly with vigor.

    Good luck!
