My question is will it struggle like my Ram does?
Simple answer is ---- YES
That marketing number, they call a max tow capacity, was calculated considering the driver weighs 150 lb (or less), he has no aftermarket accessories (floor mats, bed liner, undercoating, bed cover, step bars, etc), no cargo, and no passengers.
In theory the vehicle could pull that max tow weight. In reality, it can't carry all the stuff we put into it, and still pull that max weight number.
As you load accessories, people, and cargo (including 100 lb WD hitch), not only are you eating up payload, your also eating up tow capacity, pound for pound.
Take that Chevy with 9200 capacity, add 500 lbs of people and stuff, and it's max tow capacity is 8700 lbs. Now, hook up 8900 lbs of trailer, there's going to be a struggle.
