It's not the $15, it's the PITA to take the rig to a place that you hope has the space for it, then have them do a so-called 'safety inspection' which usually does not include the brake system. In a way, the DPS is making it only about the money because the process does very little if anything to improve safety.
A 10 year old kid can walk around and see if the lights work properly. I'd rather give him/her the money than the gov't.
Ok, I understand the PITA part. But it's fairly easy to get it done once hooked up. Look up the inspection stations on line. Find the ones with a T attached to them. Call the location and see if and when they can inspect it. Yeah, it's a bit of a bother to get hooked up to give our money to the government, but unfortunately it's just something we have to do. I'm one of the biggest complainers in the world but this is a non issue with me.
