I prefer having my wife back me up, even when she or I make a mistake. While there are some standard hand signals, very few people know them or use them correctly. I don't know the standards, but I know my wife's intent. Also she knows that when I stop and don't move it is because I can't see her, so she starts moving to the side until I start moving.
