See, now this is one of the reasons we like to get to a CG by mid afternoon. We want to be there for the entertainment. The best entertainers are the ones who show up late & very tired after a long day on the road.
One would think that most would have some sort of system where the spotter gives directions & the driver does as told but no, often it does not work that way. That is when the fun begins.
The spotter gives good directions & the driver ignores them. The spotter gives directions from a spot that the driver cannot see. The spotter gives directions that more resemble dance moves in a Broadway show. The spotter shouts directions which the driver of course cannot hear. The best, saved for last, the spotter sits in the truck, holding the poofy dog, while the driver does EVERYTHING which involves much GOAL & much backing & forthing.
It is all highly entertaining.
I won't offer help unless somebody is obviouly very new, single handing or about to do some expensive damage.
I'd like to think that the DW & I are very boring to watch, most of the time. It comes from hundreds of times backing in to some very tight sites. Knowing others are watching does not rattle us. 18 years of running a tourboat & having passengers watching my docking & anchoring skills has made me immune to an audience. Never had a shouting match with the DW either though a short burst of displeasure has been expressed from time to time. No fun at all. The FSRs & simple hand signals work great.
Outside help, even from CG staff, is ignored or graciously declined. If any damage happens, we are the ones liable for it, not the 'help'.
