Lots of people who volunteer to help you park don't really know how to direct you. Have you ever had a job where you had two or three bosses, each issuing a different order? That's what is like when a stranger comes in and starts disagreeing with you and your wife. There is a park in Morgan Hill, CA that had an employee who told you exactly how far to stop, exactly when to cut your wheels, and exactly when to stop backing ---- we ended up parked perfectly with the first try --- I really appreciated that. But other campers coming up and giving conflicting instructions wouldn't be anywhere near that competent. Or, at least, you would not know who was really an expert and who was a nosy idiot.
Good post.
Along with this is a personality that seems to REQUIRE themselves to stick themselves into helping.
I have gotten mad at folks before- my pet peeve is someone telling me HOW to drive... specific stuff like turn the wheel left. I can drive- but I certainly appreciate information on what I can't see (especially blind side stuff, or "you need to go further left or start straightening".) Don't take me out of the process!
I note that the OP used the words "would you like a second set of eyes". Kudos to that- that's offering some often needed help and NOT diving deep into his efforts!
Conversely- I'll also defend someone's "right to learn". That's an important process- of course common sense also needs to apply- if you are hitting trees and breaking things...might need to be open to some help.
Finally- remember that the dude is probably frustrated- and entitled to be frustrated...There's something to be said for being left alone when you are frustrated.
All of this is a highly complex situation with no one right or wrong, and a definite possibility for the helpER and the helpEE being wrong or right in their efforts, responses and analyses.
