I'm one who will normally resist offers of help. It's a two-part issue for me:
1. As a solo camper, I don't want to be dependent upon that extra help because it won't always be available. I need to be able to back up alone;
2. I don't know your skills, habits, etc., so I might be trading my so-so skill for a no skill.
Now, if I had already hit a tree once, I would take the help figuring it couldn't be worse than mine at the moment. I might also just stop for a few moments, get out and walk around looking at the site - not only will I have a better understanding of what's around me, but I can get a bit of a breather before trying again.
When I got the TT, I hadn't ever backed up a trailer. I parked it on the side of the road in front of my house because I didn't feel comfortable backing it into the driveway (hard drive to back into). When I took my first camping trip in it, I got to the campground and found my spot. I started backing into it and got it all nice and settled. I hopped out of the SUV and the camp host came over and said "you did a great backing up job. That's a hard site to back into, I had a pro trucker try last week and he had a horrible time of it". I felt so proud of myself thinking "this wasn't difficult, this was easy as pie".
Later that day, I happened to look up. Right next to my AC was a huge tree limb! If I had been a couple inches more to the left, it would have ripped my AC completely off. Needless to say, I now look up BEFORE backing in. But that tree limb sure did make me look like a pro. :)
