Because aluminum-flavored coffee is revolting.

Pretty much any pour-over filter, then heat the water on the stove in a kettle. I had one of the Coleman units for a while, but it's huge, heavy, and doesn't make as good a cup as a simple pour-over.

If you like a french press, check out the areopress. Basically a french press w/o the mess rinsing out of the grounds. they pop out in a nice puck when your done, right into the garbage can. and no glass to break.

Been using my aluminum coffee pot for over 40 years.Works great have only had to replace the glass top piece.

This topic comes up about every month on the forum. I'm always saddened by what our society has become, such that we can't figure out how to make a pot of coffee without electricity. Sheeesh!

I've had a percolator like this for over 30 years at least. Tent camping, remote hunting camps, year after year. It's indestructible and makes better coffee than any modern appliance. The more you use it, the better it gets. Just don't scrub off the patina inside - that will ruin it for a while.


Makes enough to satisfy a couple of big guys for breakfast, AND fill a quart thermos for the road.

Not easy to find them around town, but they are out there.

Couldn't agree more. When we got ours 10+ years ago, I thought sure we'd have to replace it in a few years. Durable little sucker! We use it at least 2-3 times/ day.
