I agree if they designated a drone area, but the problem is that most want to fly a drone where all the general public congregate to see the sites. But then, should people also be allowed to fly RC airplanes and helicopters?
The problem is that a RC can fly well outside of the receiver range and at that point you have no way to control it. My last plane had a 8 oz tank and I could fly for about 15 minutes, but it only took about 15-20 sec to get out of radio range at WOT.
RC vehicles are great, but there is a time and a place for everything, and speaking from experience it only takes a fraction of a second to set into motion a series of events that will lead to an accident.
I saw 2-3 cars hit that were in the parking lot by "seasoned" pilots who were just having a bad day.
