- JaxDadExplorer IIII rarely leave windows open while in motion, but even (especially?) in the hottest or coldest weather have the rearmost roof vent, the washroom in my case, wide open while travelling.
The vacuum created makes a huge difference in how effective the dash heat & A/C is in keeping the coach comfortable. - CavemanCharlieExplorer III

My first thought would be I couldn't care less what others do with their windows.
I have no problem if a fellow RV'er notices a window open, or something else that might have been forgotten (TV antennae up, for instance), and mentions it to me. Actually, I hope they would.
I met a TT last year while we were going down the road in opposite directions. He had left his antennae up. I tried to motion to him that there was a problem. He didn't see me though, he was too busy texting on his phone.

Do you get better mileage driving with the tailgate up or down?? Mythbusters tried it, but I don't remember the results.
Many years ago I read there is almost no difference. One study - Motortrend maybe? - found that a small amount of "vacuum" formed behind trucks cabs when the tailgate is down. Actually found there was a miniscule increase in mileage, meaning better mileage, when the tailgate is up. The best they could figure is that the up tailgate directed some air into the "vacuum", breaking it up, and increasing fuel mileage. All numbers, though, were very small - realistically no difference.
I haven't read or seen anything recently. - Johno02ExplorerDo you get better mileage driving with the tailgate up or down?? Mythbusters tried it, but I don't remember the results.
- CavemanCharlieExplorer IIIHumm, I like to have air flow in what ever I am driving. If I had a Motor Home I think that leaving the back window open would be the perfect idea to get air to flow through the RV without adding much noise. If you have decent air flow you can shut the AC off.
Also, I suppose,,, There is a big suction behind a RV that is trying to slow you down and robs gas mileage. I suppose it's possible that people believe that if you leave that back window open you are breaking some of that suction and helping yourself out. Might be some truth in that !! - fj12ryderExplorer III

- DutchmenSportExplorerSometimes we travel with the roof vents open. We have covers on all of them. Why? For ventilation, especially in HOT weather. We don't open windows, bu the roof vents do help keep air circulating and from getting so dang HOT inside the camper.
