I'm in a similar position, but we RV full-time. When at one location for an extended period I've used Comcast (cable). Also tried CenturyLink DSL. They lied about their speeds, pricing, everything. Dropped them in the first 30 days.
We have 7G/month of high-speed tethering on both of our cell phones, so that comes in very handy. We have an unlimited Verizon 3G device now. It's fast enough for just about everything except for streaming video. In your situation, tethering or another wireless broadband device will be your best bet.
