one burner on the stove not "sparking"

I have a three burner stove which is going on 12 years. The sparker, or Piezzo gives us problems every once in a while. Well, the other day, all three would not light by use of the sparker. I cleaned them all, and now, only one won't light the stove.

Oh, I took off the sparker and made sure there is a spark. But the spark does not make it through the orifice. What can I use to clean out the orifice? I have used needles and brushes, to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • I'm with Dutch on the BBQ lighter for the stove top. I also have a West Bend slow cooker that is made of metal, so unbreakable. I haven't seen one of those in a store in years. I have a dandy toaster oven that has temperature settings when Mrs. Stouffer cooks for me. The oven is for storage of little used kitchen stuff.
  • Another thing to check would be whether the wire from that burner to the piezo is still connected. I've had mine come unplugged, spotted it when I opened up to see what it was going to take to replace the piezo.
  • We've been at this a long time. Although our piezo lighter still works, we have found it far easier and more efficient to use a 0.99 cent butane BBQ lighter. One click does it nearly every time and despite the fact that we do that 10-15 times/day (we love our coffee and I cook several meals/day) we only replace that lighter about once a year.
  • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^That's the way to go. I did the same and ran one of the wires down to the oven pilot light so I don't have to manually light that anymore.
  • As said, it does sound like misadjusted spark gap. I replaced the annoying piezo ignitor on our stove with an electronic ignitor sold as a replacement for grills. No more "snap, snap, snap" that wakes the zombies just to cook an egg or two. Now we just push a nice quiet button.
  • Move the spark contact closer to the burner. On my stove the wire seems to come loose about once a week
