A rather nice young man I knew for a few years received a 2010 Darwin Award. His family misses him.
The survivor of the incident suffered through 8 months of treatment for his burns. His very young daughter was scared of him for a long while due to his scars.
Yes, what they did was incredibly stupid, very dangerous and it was just dumb luck that one actually survived.
We joke about their stupidity, but many of us also remember some such things we have done in out youth.
I also agree the siphoning incident was impossible in an RV, but very likely could have occurred with a boat.
