Outside fiberglass ripped off

Anyone ever have this happen? We were traveling I25 today north of Trinidad, CO when we discovered part of the fiberglass outer shell of our 5th wheel had ripped off. Began on the side at the nose of the RV & peeled back. Only guess is somehow it gapped & the wind caught it. Hope insurance is going to cover it. ML
  • I've seen it happen to the skin on framed walls, but it would really be unusual for a laminated wall, where the skin and underlayment are full-area bonded to each other and the insulation underneath. Cougar is supposed to be laminated wall, guess factory didn't get that one bonded before taking the pressure off.
  • Inspect it real close for water intrusion around the area where in ripped off. A lot of time water will seep in cause the wood to swell and pull away along seams.
  • Sorry to hearof your misfortune. Hope insurance covers it and quickly!
  • Well at least we are on the "road" to recovery. As our grandson says "real amazing" the Allstate adjustor was out by 10 am on Monday. Says we are totally covered & gave us a preliminary check. We have it patched over so we are now the RV'rs everyone takes pity on when driving down the road. Will finish vacation without worry.
  • be sure to check chassis of you 5 er real good… a quick search will reveal there has been more than enough of them fail and could cause the siding to pull loose…
  • yep had the same thing happen on a 02 arctic fox that we just picked up. Fortunatly we bought it from a RV repair guy who new it needed some work and assured us that it would be taken care of . Was good on his word it's been in the shop for going on 3 weeks now. I check on it every week to see progress. We where fortunate in that it was purchased with the understanding that the repairs would be made at no additional cost. He has literally reframed the entire front and down both sides as well as part of the floor in the front bedroom.Windows are back in, roof is back on should be back home this week. YAHOO. We will literally have a new trailer by the time he is done. He is doing great work . I had never seen a trailer striped down and rebuilt before . Very interesting.Judy
