It should screw on the existing shower pipe, if it doesn't there are adapters at all the Big Box stores and most decent hardware stores.
OR
Trade the one you got off for the "telephone" type with a hose. Then find the adapter for where you will screw into the diverter. I don't have any real scale, but that sure looks like 1/4 pipe.
We love ours.
