Pain meds not cutting it!!

I do not remember being in such pain with my last TKR. I feel like I am going backwards instead of forwards. Day before yesterday I could lay on the couch on my side and felt fine. Last night I felt the gravity on my leg laying on the side was overwhelming. The pain was horrible and even trying to go back to where I started was a challenge to say the least. My dh said it's just the healing process....I sure hope that's the reason.

The meds I got the last surgery were stronger that these pills. I am taking Percocet 5/325. Last ones were 7.5/325 would I notice that much of a difference? I take 2 every 4-6 hours....however that is now every 3 1/2 hours. I fall asleep with Tylenol, not a pill taker. Pills usually over react with me so these have to be weak.

Okay done with my vent, thanks for listening. :(

  • I will give the doc a call tomorrow and see why she prescribed the weaker meds for me. I would much rather have weaker if they worked but they don't. I am on a CPM machine 6 hours a day and taking blood thinner shots every morning. I just left the hospital on Thursday and everything was just the same nearly so I don't think DVT is a problem. I did look it up. No hot spots, knee's swollen but nothing out of the norm. Ankle swollen too but it has been. I appreciate the feedback thanks.
  • As others have said, call the doc!

The responsibility to keep you out of pain is his/hers also.
  • I have had well over 25 surgeries and every time I was told that if pain increased call the Dr, or if unbearable go to emergency.
As others have said, call your Dr. If you don't look after yourself nobody else can...Good Luck!
  • I'm sure they told you to call the doctor if you were having problems. You ARE having problems. They have an on-call person. Call them!
  • My wife (nurse) says Deep Vein Thrombosis is a possibility and you need to see your doctor again. Ultrasound would be necessary to diagnose. Don't mess with this. There are serious implications if neglected. I am not trying to scare you. Take it for what it is; Free advice.
  • Call your doctor. Pain is not a part of healing. Maybe something else will do a better job of controlling it.
