No, No, and No! Are you kidding me. And I don't want to hear anything about "tactic used to minimize their wasted time, especially with high ticket items". Some car dealerships are doing the same thing except they do it with your trade in. They drive your trade in to see what it would be worth. Then when you try to walk they have a hard time locating your keys. By the time they locate your keys the price has dropped another $500.00.
Buying an expensive RV is no different than buying anything else, except the mark up on that expensive RV is probably starting out around 45%. You can either play their games or you can take charge.
When I walk into a dealership (car or RV, it doesn't matter), I simply tell the salesman what I am looking for. If he has what I am looking for then my next statement is "There is no question of weather I am going to buy ____, the only question is where I am going to buy ____". I may even tell him/her right up front weather I am trading, financing, or paying cash.
If a dealership ever ask me for a credit card in order to start pricing I would simply tell them they were nuts and walk out.
