Saw him changing the plates with a big smile on his face.

you are right noplace, I have seen it so bad that folks were watering down the road in front of their site to help hold the dust down. :S

We just finished a 400 mile trip (200 each way) and found the same mentality that pervades CG's. Speed limits and other rules are merely suggestions that don't need to interfere with their entitlement. You will never convince those folks to behave any differently in, or out of a CG.

Since the campground roads that are gravel and in need of grading from a long summer of rain and washouts the only responsible way to drive is slowly. I value my rig. On those that are paved there are now new branches hanging with the weight of summmer growth that ar hanging low.

Great topic and one of my biggest aggravations while camping. Most folks have no clue just how fast they are going. A simple glance down at the speedometer or GPS can clear that up. When the CG is posted 10 mph that is the MXIMUM speed limit in good weather and broad daylight assuming the roads are in good shape and "10" means "10"!

Seems like the worst offenders are the folks rushing to get into their site. I've seen large RV's, often towing, driving 30+ in 10 mph CG's. The roads are narrow and there are often kids, dogs and fat old people {like me}, who are at risk. When possible I try to get a site that is not on one of the primary access roads and never hesitate to speak up to the Camp Host's if I observe a problem.

Sadly, most of the hosts jus throw up their hands and say they can't do anything.... which is NOT true. I will not hesitate to call local law enforcement if the hosts won't and ignore the problem and when they arrive the offenders better hope they have not been drinking.

When folks ignore the problem it always gets worse. Rant off.... for now.

This is not just a problem in the autumn. I see it all the time, especially in state parks and other public lands. And my experience with autumn is that CGs are as busy as they are in late July/early August. It's also nothing new or specific to any generation.

Many years ago when my daughter was about 3 yo, we were walking on a road in a state CG on our way back from the showers. I had her hand, a car was coming toward us doing about 35 and nearly hit us. It happened very fast. Of course I chewed the guy out but he didn't stop. He appeared to be in his 50s. A minute late we saw him in a site on a hill above where we were. He was visiting someone camped there. My daughter is 31 now to give some perspective on the time period.

I was recently in a Thousand Trails Park in Pennsylvania that was filled to capacity. When I tried to due the posted speed limit of 10mph (which is fast some we stay at are much less) people would past me up. I find this very disturbing, but it seem to be the now or me generation of these type of people that are in a hurry.
