Poly Glow

I used poly-glow two years ago on a 27' sailboat that was 27 years old. The results were fantastic. The folks at the marina where she was moored couldn't believe the difference. The boat looked very good for its age before I used the poly-glow,but the hull truly looked like new after. Every year I had to compound the entire hull and buff in several coats of marine wax. It took me a few days to get a satisfactory result. After six months on a mooring in salt water,under the flight path of a major airport,I would have to go through the whole procedure again!

The poly-glow was extremely easy to use once the scrubbing to remove all old wax was finished. The first few coats were a disappointment,because I was expecting a miracle. The miracle happened after about the fourth of seven coats.The entire application took about three hours with drying time. The results were a mirror-like shine. The second year required a good cleaning and one or two coats of the poly-glow to restore the good looks.(The parts of the boat the were abraded by the straps of the the marine crane required a complete stripping and reapplication.) It is essentially a polymer plastic coating that you apply. It may peel eventually,but since it is easily removed,I really didn't care. The results were worth it.

Did it on my fiver several years ago. Looked good for a year, then.......removing the crud is very difficult. I am still paying for that mistake. Do a search using words like polyglo, zep, floor polish for hours of reading.

There is lots of info on this forum. Do a search and and select the "archive over one year" filter feature. Oh... and spell the product correctly when doing the search "Poliglow".

I used Zep on my end caps. Looked absolutely beautiful...for 6 months. Then it started to check, crack and flake. It was a nightmare to get off. I had my trailer parked in AZ when it did this, so I know it doesn't give much protection from the sun. I ended up washing it with Zep stripper straight out of the bottle, a few times. Then it was sanded and painted like it should have been to start with.

I used it on my 10 year old motorhome. It looked like new. It took 5 coats to make it shine. The hardest part was scrubbing the surface thoroughly before the application. After nearly a year in the Florida sun it still had a nice shine. When I put it up for sale, people who looked at it commented on how nice and shiney it looked. It did help sell it. So if you have a sale in mind, it is well worth it.

As was said the clean up before is very important. Our 15 year old Alpenlite has never been inside. Arizona sun is not the same as the summer sun but 6 months in Az since 2001.

Larry...I have used Poliglow on my boat and really liked the results. I have read that Zep and Red Max Pro are the same as Poliglow. What is the difference?

Red max pro will turn to yellow on a white alpenlite. It lasted almost 3 years before flaking. I did a lot of work on the preparation.I get lots of comments on the shiny finish we have. Poli glow doesn't not look any better than the Zep product until the yellow starts to show.

Thanks Larry, I may stick to Poli-Glow even though it is more expensive.

I've been using Poliglo now for 4 years on a 15 year old 5th wheel. We bought it 5 years old and the fiberglass was already dull and faded. I'm kind of anal about my stuff and just couldn't get the look I wanted using other products. Using buffers and polishers may have worked but waaaaaay to much effort for my tired body. After using Poliglo I am one happy camper and have never regretted it. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!! Many that have complained didn't do the necessary prep to insure good adhesion. Also note that you want it as clean as possible cause once it coated, trying to clean spots left behind requires removing of the product and recoating.
I have noticed that the required coat or 2 yearly does indeed bring back the shine.
I also vouch for the original product (Poliglo) vs the cheaper alternatives. Considering the investment, spending a little more for it is money well spent.
