why bother with all this other nonsense.
We bother with all of the other nonsense because we're not dealing with just one dog on a walk. We have multiple dogs, and set up a portable exercise pen for them. To clean up after them with bags would mean using a lot of bags, and would mean constantly climbing over the exercise pen fence to bend over and get the "stuff." With the scooper, we can easily reach into the pen to clean up, and dump it into one big bag in a bucket. It takes an extra 30 seconds to clean up and store the equipment when breaking camp, but that's far less effort compared to using a bag every time, and much more economical (not to mention far less plastic being thrown away.)
It has nothing to do with being squeamish or being afraid of accidental contact. If we're taking them on a walk, then we do use the baggie method. It's just that it's not always practical under all circumstances.
There are different strokes for different folks, one solution does not fit all. Just because you don't use a scoop doesn't make them useless, and doesn't mean you can belittle those folks who do want to use them. The OP has a legitimate question, and telling him to "do some good" and just use a bag is not really helpful.
This isn't exactly on topic, but I guess this means you let your dogs defecate where the next campers kids will be playing...
