I don't think anyone that has responded in this thread is saying not to give good sound advice to them. Myself included. It's how that information and/or opinion is given by some. It's better to hear "I realize you just spent a lot of money and I'm sure you and your family will get years of enjoyment from your new trailer but it appears your setup is overweight so be extremely careful when towing to reduce the risk the best you can" than it is to hear "Nope, won't work. You can't tow that. You better take a beating on a trade in and get something smaller or go out and spend another 50-75 grand on a proper tow vehicle that will keep you underweight." The first example of how to answer says to the person asking the questions that he or she should be very careful and be cognizant of the fact that they have a weight issue that they need to address when they can afford to do so and in the meantime will always be on their toes when towing. when they can afford to make the situation better, hopefully they will. The second way of answering the question is destructive and demoralizing. It's no wonder that people get upset and lash out or leave the forum. They aren't leaving or getting mad because they didn't like the information that was given to them. They leave or get mad because of the way they were told and treated. It's more about how that information is provided than what that information is. Contrary to what some on this forum think, not everyone that buys a trailer is made of money. They aren't traveling around the Country living in it full time either. They are just ordinary people with jobs and families and bills and they go to work every day and bust their rear ends to make ends meet and they want a way to unwind and spend quality time with their spouse and kids or plan to go hunting or fishing or whatever without breaking the bank. Personally, I'd rather travel next to someone that has a 1/2 ton pickup with a trailer that is a little heavy going 55-60 mph with both hands on the wheel than to be near some guy with a monster truck pulling the same trailer going 75-80mph with one arm resting on the top of the steering wheel while the other hand is lighting a cigar, but that's just me.
