Pickup truck: from OEM info GCWR is 23,000lbs. From door sticker: Front axle 5200 lbs, rear axle 6200 lbs (total 11,400 lbs), but the sticker GVWR is 9900 lbs.
Neighbor's Kenworth: from OEM info GCWR is 140,000lbs. From door sticker: Front axle 13,200 lbs. , rear axle 46,000 lbs (total is 59,200 lbs.) Sticker GVWR is 59,200 lbs. (it appears someone at Kenworth can add?)
Why doesn't the math add up for a pickup? It's OEM says it can tow/haul 23000lbs (3 times it's empty weight), but it can't haul at over 9900lbs by itself?
So if you load a big Acme "1 Ton" weight behind your rear axle, and load it to 6200lbs. and reduce the front axle weight to 3700lb, thereby not exceeding the magic 9900lbs, now your are safe to hook on to a 13,100lbs trailer, not exceeding the GCWR of 23,000lbs - because everything still equals the sticker? (disclaimer: don't do this...even if the sticker says...)
But if you load the truck to front 5100lbs and rear 6100lbs (total 11,200lbs on truck) with a 5th wheel, and drive off at 23,000lbs GCWR you are now a public menace, even if all axle weights are "under"?
How much stress does the door sticker undergo vs the frame, axles, suspension, and brakes anyway?
