On our last outing, the motor failed on our Care Free One Touch awning. It was in the extended position. I read the awning manual which said to put a 5/64 allen wrench into the end of the motor shaft to raise it up. Really?? 5/64? Needless to say, none of the allen wrench sets that I had on board had an allen wrench of this size. So...off to the hardware store to purchase one. After inserting this new wrench into the motor shaft, it promptly stripped out the hex in the end of the shaft. How can you expect to raise an entire awning with this puny allen wrench? I then removed the plastic cover of the awning motor assembly so that I could use a drill motor that I chucked onto the end of the shaft. Up the awning went. We then zip tied it to the coach and headed home.
The awning assembly is the original equipment on the coach and is 14 years old. The motor is no longer available and nobody makes an alternative to it. The dealer going to get new arms for a manual awning and change it over.
