Power out

Today I noticed our lights were very dim. After investigation determined blown circuit on house 15 amp. Fixed easily. Now wondering why refrigerator didn't keep running on propane, tanks were full?

Also, how long to bring single 12 bolt battery back to full charged?

  • Okay..while i put on my school teacher hat

stop and think for a minute
what makes the fridge able to switch from electric to propane
    either automatic or manually ?
    the control board !!
what runs the igniter to light the propane flame controls
where does the power come from to run the controls ?
    the 12v batteries !!

most things in an RV are a matter of simple logic
and most things in the RV are powered by OR controlled by the 12vdc system

the repairs might take physical work or replacing parts or fuses or something
BUT most can be figured out by simple logic
Hope this helps you in the future

You answered your first question with your 2nd.. The Fridge uses either Propane or Electricity for cooling, When power went out, the on-board computer (Control board) Which runs on 12 volts auto switched to Propane and continued operation.. HOWEVER when the 12 volt ran out, the computer stopped working, its 12 volt battery power that runs the ignition system and opens the valve.

Now, question 2 How long to recharge

Depends on the converter and battery system you have.

IN my case I have around 550 amp hours of deep cycle batteries and a Progressve dyanamics 9180 with wizard so it woudl take me from 1/2 full about 8 hours to full.

The fastest you can safely recharge Lead Acid would be about six hours, (From half full) a bit longer if run down farther.

And then there are some that take like weeks, (magnetek 6300 could easily take 4-5 days to recharge my batteries from half).

If your lights were dim, you've discharged the battery below a good level. It would be best to charge the battery back to it's fully charged state (overnight with your converter) and then perform an equalizing procedure to remove some of the sulfation.

  • Probably at least 4 hours to recharge. If the lights were dimming they were at less than 12 volts.
