Well, now I don't know if we were lucky, ignorant, or blind,(or a combination of all) cause last year, we came from Oregon to the northern Redwoods down to Lodi, & on to Yosemite, then to Sequoia/Kings Canyon, and on to Az. and never got stopped for inspection or even saw one. :h
Hwy 101 and hwy 199 both have them just inside the state line. They may have been closed while you went by.
