When I look to travel and camp within a state of the USA, I have yet to use that state governments' political views as a reason to stay away. Now if the fishing was bad, well that's another story.

EXACTLY!

I'm a native Californian who left the state a couple years ago, when i retired.
half the reason we left is we couldn't stand how the state had changed, politically and culturally.

but that doesn't apply to what a wondrous, spectacular and beautiful state it is.
there is no other state in the country, that has such natural diversity.
i used to be able to surf in the morning and then drive 2 hours to go skiing.

and most people are still friendly and courteous. most judge the state by how the large cities are.
California is a big state and there's more to it than Los Angeles and San Francisco.

i don't miss the politics but i do terribly miss my beautiful home state.

Every border hwy but usually little to no backup. Last couple of years they have asked about fire wood, more often a "have a nice day" and a wave through.

Hwy 101 and hwy 199 both have them just inside the state line. They may have been closed while you went by.

That is not only possible, but probable as we came down 199 from Grants Pass, and out I-40 through Needles, no one came out & chased us down, so they must have been closed. :)

I've been through a million times and its never been an issue. I tell them we have produce purchased at Safeway or .. and they just wave us through. Most produce you buy came from California anyway.

I've crossed the CA/NV border many times and never been inspected. They just ask if you have any fruits or veg and wave you through. I haven't crossed in an RV though. Maybe they would be more thorough in this case. If they did find something, I guess I would just pull over in their parking lot and fix up a nice salad before I crossed over.
