Propane and gas

Went to get propane where I always get it at a mobile home dealer/park,girl asked what size and I replied 30lb.,and she said 17.00,I said not 20...30lb.,she said propane is starting to drop like a rock, with all the gas in the area,(Marcellus Shale)and these people fill them to the max.allowed,17.00 is what you pay at box store for 20lb.,and it isn't a full tank!Next I go to the local big gas station, and my neighbor had told me they just got a pump that is pure gas,no ethanol,I asked if they care what you put it in,and they said they didn't care, mostly I use it for all my mowers, chain saws, power washers, ect,as my neighbor owns a Huskyvarna store and tells me all the time how the moister in the ethanol, screws up all the carbs.,but I really like it in the truck,it gets such better milage and the power is better also, regular here is 3.39 a gal.,and the 100% gas is 4.00,so not a big difference, plus I like it in my Hot Rods, and all nice and close!(By the way,I don't care about tree huggers, drilling or climate change so don't waste your breath)
  • Superduty, you are the first person I have heard say he got better mileage with ethanol infused gasoline. Most of the folks I have read about claim fewer miles per gallon and decreased power.

Well... I will do the tree hugger thing but I may surprise you.. You see, I do my research.

From the best info I can find you get perhaps 10% more from pure gasoline, so 3.39 plus .339 (Call it .34) is is 3.73 That would be the break even price on No-Booze gas. Of course this does not count fuel system/engine damage prevented so you may well be getting the better deal.

now the tree bit: The "Official" line of ... stuff.. is that by adding Alcohol to the gas we are saving on oil needs.. The facts as best I can determine is that by the time we factor in the fuel to prepare the ground for planting, put the seed in the ground, ferterlize it (It's made from petroleum in many cases) Control weeds, Harvest, transport, ferment and distill the corn into alcohol.

We have burned more oil than we save.

So the tree huggers ... Have it backwards (not at all uncommon) and are actually making things worse.

Does alcohol contribute to cleaner air.. That one can be argued, On this I have not done research but my personal opinion is that it does not.

Now E-01 ir E-02.. In the winter.. In Michigan (And other states like it) is a good idea.. That is just enough alcohol to prevent gas line freezup (Think one pint per 20 gallons) I have had Gas line freezup as have some others I know of,, and just a little Alcohol in the tank made a 100% improvement in the problem.

My daughter's godfather used to laugh at me for paying more for Standard/Amoco (now BP) gas than he paid for a "generic" off brand.... Till I towed his vanagan to the shop so the mechanic could put in a new fuel pump.. Seems the old one got drown in water and broke when it froze.

That, of course, has nothing to do with hugging trees.

Dude, please use punctuation and take a breather, would ya???
  • When I left my home in SC 2 weeks ago diesel was $3.32 hi test 93 octane gas is usually about the same as diesel regular gas is about 15 to 20 cents less. I saw diesel in Deer park LI NY @ $4.25 a gallon today
  • It's not the moisture, it's the extra oxygen in ethanol that leans out the mixture and the solvent properties that softens older gaskets. EtOH is a ridiculous waste of perfectly good corn.
  • Geez, you are lucky. Our regular gas in MI is around $4.15 and I noticed today that the diesel was about 5 cents less than regular gas. $3.39 is good.
